No need to point it out, updates have been quite rare recently. This because I've been too busy with taking care of my kids and other activities.
I am thinking about giving up the blog, since it has proved to be very time-consuming, and I'm unable to do it properly and regularly. The following weeks will be decisive. We shall see...
Moses disagrees with the idea of shortening / summing up the story of the creation of the world, because it comes from God himself. However, Aaron uses practical arguments : indeed, they don't have enough papyrus, moreover they need a short story to reach the public or it wil get bored,
on top of that they need to sell a minimum of 100 copies to get royalties. Nonetheless, those arguments are anachronistic, indeed marketing didn't
exist in ancient Egypt!
To conclude, the text is ironical, the author tries to gather /
reconcile the two theories (religious and scientific ones) about the origins of the world!
Today we put an end to the study of the picture below:
Here is what you said:
The structure of the picture is divided into two parts by the red mailbox: on
the left, the mothers with their children symbolize love and peace, whereas the soldier on the
right symbolizes violence and war. The photographer wants to show the contrast between the two. In Northern Ireland, the IRA is a terrorist group which fights against the British presence
and for independence of the country. As a conclusion, we can imagine that the photographer means that the
situation is difficult and strange.
Then we started reading a text entitled 'Irish Voices', that we'll study next time.
Today we started a new chapter about 'New Technologies'. As a first document, we studied the video below:
We first listened to the audio part of the document only, then listened again with breaks. Finally, we checked our hypotheses by watching the video with the audio. And here is what came out of
your work:
Listening 1 :
TV show - 3 women talking - kids are crazy - they spend time on their phone, not their family - England - they are
addicted...
Listening 2 :
- 60% of teenagers are addicted to their phone
- Kids are easily distracted
- 47% take their phone in the bathroom, only 22% of adults do
- Rebecca has got a restaurant and she often sees kids heads down, not talking with their family : "Put your phone down!"
- I've got a teenager who does that, it drives me mad!
Unfortunately, we didn't have time enough to go any further, we'll try to finish it next time.
Today we read the second page of the document I gave you before the holidays about the origins of the world (click on the
picture):
And here is what you said about it:
The text is a short story by Isaac Asimov,
who is a famous American writer of science fiction books (ex: I, Robot). The
two main characters are Moses and Aaron, two brothers who would like to write the story of the creation of the world. The scene is set in ancient Egypt, a
long time ago, because they are using papyrus and a stylus. However / Yet, they have a problem;
indeed, the story is much / way too long, therefore they have to shorten
it / sum it up.
We didn't have time enough to write down everything we said, so we'll try to do it next time.
Today we put an end to the study of the text started before the holidays.
Here is what you said:
Georgia feels sad and depressed because she has / is compelled to quit /
give up her boyfriend. She is afraid to miss her boyfriend. Moreover, she
is angry at / resents her mother, because she doesn't understand her. Consequently, Georgia tries to hurt her mother, she is rude and disrespectful with her. For example, she shoutsat her, she slams the door of her bedroom, and tries to makeherfeel guilty. However, it doesn't work, because her mother is used to
that. To conclude, we can say that Georgia is an insolent young girl, she is exaggerating because it isn't the end of the world!
